The Pressure to Have it All Figured out in 20s
You wake up, scroll through Instagram, and suddenly everyone seems to be doing something.
Someone just got their dream job. Someone’s
launching a brand. Someone’s in Vietnam, Bali taking a “wellness break”. And
there you are- lying in bed, wondering if you’re already behind in life.
We don’t talk enough about this invisible
pressure that our 20s bring – the feeling that we must have everything sorted:
career, relationship, mental peace and even a perfectly stable morning routine
by the time we hit 25.
The “Timeline Trap”
Somewhere between college and adulthood, we all
absorbed this idea that success has a timeline. Graduate at 21. Get your dream
job at 23. Be financially independent at 25. Know your purpose by 27.
But no one really tells you that everyone’s
clock run differently. Some people are sprinting head; others are still finding
the courage to start- and both are okay.
Our generation has grown up seeing success
stories everyday – on YouTube, on LinkedIn, on Instagram reels. When
achievements are constantly in your face, comparison starts to feel natural.
But what we forget is that most of what we see is a highlight reel, not the
reality in between.
The Social Media Illusion
Social media has made “figured it out” look
aesthetic.
Behind every “productive day” post is someone
who procrastinated for three hours before starting. Behind every smiling travel
photo is someone who still doesn’t know their next step.
Nobody Has It Fully Figured Out
The truth is, no one really knows what they’re
doing- not even the ones who look like they do. Life in your 20s is basically
trial and error in motion. You’ll lose jobs, find better ones, lose people,
meet kinder ones, fail at plans, and slowly learn that it’s all part of it.
Your 20s are not a deadline- they’re a draft.
And maybe that’s the point- so keep rewriting until it feels right.
Learning to Breathe in Uncertainty
It’s okay to take a pause. To not have a
five-year plan. To change your mind.
The more we rush to “figure it out”, the more
we miss out an actually living it. Because sometimes the mess, the
confusion, the uncertainty- that’s where you start finding yourself.
So, next time you scroll through someone else’s
success story, remind yourself: you’re not late. You’re just on a
different page.
